The Blood Pressure Book: How to Get It Down and Keep It Down
Now in its third edition, this basic work explains the latest data on the effects of medication, diet, and exercise on blood pressure. It defines the essential terminology (such as diastolic and systolic), emphasizes stress reduction techniques, and offers science-based insight into the causes and control of this widespread condition.
Healing Hypertension: A Revolutionary New Approach "It is our hidden emotions, the emotions we do not feel, that lead to hypertension," writes Samuel J. Mann, M.D., physician/researcher and Associate Professor at the Hypertension Center at the New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center. "Becoming aware of our hidden emotions and dealing with them can enable both physical and emotional healing," he adds.
Hypertension, commonly known as high blood pressure, affects 50 million Americans and prompts more doctor visits than any other medical condition. In Healing Hypertension, Mann explains how you can tell if hidden emotions are instrumental in your hypertension (they may not be, if your condition is mainly genetic), and if so, how you can get on the path to healing. Some clues that you may be burdened by hidden emotions include emotional trauma that you think is behind you, a habit of not feeling unwanted emotions, a history of emotional isolation, and childhood abuse or severe family dysfunction. Mann also briefly discusses how hidden emotions can affect other medical conditions such as back pain, headaches, and anxiety disorders. He spends most of the book helping you see that hidden emotions may be affecting your hypertension. The last few chapters address where you can go from there. Numerous case histories personalize the information. --Joan PriceA PIONEERING APPROACH TO OVERCOMING HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE If you are one of the millions of people diagnosed with high blood pressure, this groundbreaking book can change your life. Unique in combining a medical and a psychological approach, Samuel J. Mann, M.D., explains: - How you can tell whether or not your high blood pressure is related to emotions
- How to find the medication best suited for you, and when to reduce or eliminate unnecessary medication
- How exploring "hidden" or repressed emotions can reduce your blood pressure and the need for medication
Featuring compelling and instructive case histories as well as the latest medical research, Healing Hypertension can help you make sense of your high blood pressure while offering new choices for controlling it. "In Healing Hypertension, Dr. Samuel Mann pushes the boundaries of medicine by demonstrating the emotional components of hypertension, one of the most serious health problems of our day. Healing Hypertension shows that it is not enough to attend to our physical bodies; we must look to our emotional life as well if we expect to be healthy and whole. This is an immensely important book." -Larry Dossey, M.D., A Author of Healing Words and Reinventing Medicine

THAT DAMN DIALYSIS Meet Cledus B. Washington, Jr. an attractive, hardworking, fifty year-old man with a great sense of humor whose world is turned upside down when he becomes a statistic amongst the 20.6 million American who are diagnosed with chronic kidney disease each year. As he finally comes to grips with his illness, his girlfriend leaves him, his mother tries to take over his life, and his financial security is severely compromised as his world shrinks down to monitoring the buzzing sound of his lifeline that confirms he is still alive.
I enjoyed reading That Damn Dialysis immensely! Cledus Washington is a real down-to-earth person suffering with chronic kidney disease and learns how to live with it. I have been in the field of Nephrology for over thirty-five years, and have noticed that unfortunately there are occasions when healthcare workers (doctors, nurses, etc.,) treat patients with chronic kidney disease as if they are in a vacuum. The star character, Cledus Washington, shows he is a real person, with a real life. He demonstrates how he learns to live with the disease and yet still enjoy life. Being on dialysis doesnt take over his life! I look forward to finding out how Cledus deals with his kidney transplant. Excellent reading material; a great story, combined with easy to read medical knowledge.
--Charles K. Crumb M.D.
'That Damn Dialysis is unique! Most medical books are too technical and written for medical professionals. This medical novel' is written so that the average person can fully understand the medical terms, enjoy a good story, and fully understand their disease and their options. Cledus B. Washington, the star of the book, tells his hilarious and compassionate story, in good old layman's terms.
The Hypertension Report: Say Goodbye to High Blood Pressure An estimated 50 million Americans have high blood pressure, often called the "silent killer'' because it may not cause symptoms until the patient has suffered serious damage to the arterial system. Diet, exercise, potassium supplements chelation therapy and practically anything but drugs is the way to go in my opinion. We discuss alternatives in this report.
